As Health-Psychologist
As a licensed healthcare psychologist (GZ-psycholoog) and owner of Schimmelpennink Psychologie in Amsterdam and Weesp, I work closely with Laura.
Our collaboration is structured as follows: I am involved as the supervising clinician (regiebehandelaar) in the background. This means that I carry the ultimate responsibility for the treatment process and can be consulted whenever necessary. Laura conducts the therapy sessions and serves as the primary point of contact for clients. This arrangement allows us to provide high-quality, reimbursed psychological care.
I have extensive experience in both primary and specialized mental healthcare (GGZ), working with a wide range of client groups, from children and adolescents to professionals experiencing stress and burnout. My approach is characterized by a holistic perspective: I look not only at the symptoms themselves, but also at the underlying patterns, life experiences, and physical signals that may contribute to them.
In my work
In addition to my professional experience, I also understand the impact of stress and anxiety from a personal perspective. I sought therapy myself to better cope with stress-related complaints and performance anxiety. This experience showed me how valuable it is to invest in yourself, understand the origins of your difficulties, and create space for emotions and new ways of responding.
What I felt was missing in my own therapeutic process, however, was sufficient attention to the body. Stress manifested itself in physical symptoms such as heart palpitations, a constant sense of restlessness, and brain fog. Meditation helped me reconnect with my body, listen to the signals it was giving me, and take better care of myself. Inspired by this experience, I deepened my knowledge of body-oriented approaches, Ayurveda, and supporting physical and mental well-being through lifestyle changes.
